Description:

Reddish-brown crust becoming black; shiny; slightly roughened to nearly smooth, sometimes with small cracks; highly variable shape and size; flesh whitish, tough (J. Solem, pers. comm.).

Where to find:

Habitat: On decaying hardwood branches, especially beech.
