Relationships:

Host plant for various butterfly species including Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Striped Hairstreak, and Coral Hairstreak.

Host plant for various moth species including Inornate Olethreutes Moth, Pink-washed Leafroller Moth, Buck Moth, American Dagger Moth, Eastern Tent Caterpillar Moth, and White Furcula Moth (Database of the World's Lepidopteran Hostplants, Miller et al., 2018, Gilligan, Wright, & Gibson, 2008).

Host to the mite species Eriophyes cerasicrumena. The galls are the primary food for Cherry Gall Azure caterpillars.

Host to the fungus that produces the Cherry Knot Gall.
