Typically found in drier habitats than other Maryland Eutrochium species. This species can be found in open woodlands and other well drained areas. Distributed across the state but uncommon on the Eastern Shore.
Separated from the other species of Eutrochium by typically having purple on the stems only at the nodes. Leaves are pinnately veined. May be slightly glaucous but typically not. Shorter than much taller Hollow Joe Pye Weed.
