Known from just one extant population in Maryland. At this location, plants occurred on sandy, dry to mesic soil that was fissured into plates from seasonal drying. It was found in close association with Appressed Bog Clubmoss (Lycodopiella appressa), Bog Yellow-eyed Grass (Xyris difformis), and Nodding Lady's Tresses (Spiranthes cernua). (Steury, 2002)
