Orchopeas pennsylvanicus is the most common flea found on woodrats in the northeastern United States. The woodrat colony along the Potomac River in Montgomery County has been extirpated and therefore, it is likely so has this flea. The previous collection in Montgomery County was in 1921. (Eckerlin, 2011)
