Real-Time Count Data on the Project Page via the Trektellen
OK, so we’ve talked about how you can check out the Turkey Point Bird Count results in near real-time via the Trektellen data on the MBP project page (which is linked on the home page): https://www.marylandbiodiversity.com/project/turkeypoint/
But there’s more! From there, go to the Trektellen page, search for “Maryland Biodiversity Project” or “Turkey Point” and you can view summaries of all migrant species tallied for the season via the link “Totals 2021”. Here’s the direct link:https://www.trektellen.org/site/totals/3157/2021
You can see the count has tallied impressive totals of many species, such as 1,048 Chimney Swifts (today’s photo species), 465 Bank Swallows, 473 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, 50 Northern Waterthrushes, 82 American Redstarts, 13 Cape May Warblers, 129 Yellow Warblers, and 242 Orchard Orioles. It’s also easy to tally non-avian migrants such as Monarchs (16) and dragonflies (six species noted in migration).
It’s August 17th and Daniel Irons & Co. have counted nearly 6,000 migrants of nearly 100 species migrating over the Chesapeake Bay. Awesome!
