Slender Toothwort is found in rich mesic forests of the piedmont and the mountainous Maryland counties. It is uncommon on the Coastal Plain of the western Shore. There are specimens at various herbaria from Harford, Cecil (historical), and Kent Counties.Bloom dates range from the last week of March through the second week of May.
Slender Toothwort closely resembles both Broad-leaved Toothwort and Cut-leaved Toothwort. During flowering Slender Toothwort can be differentiated from Cut-leaved Toothwort by having basal leaves, which Cut-leaved Toothwort typically lacks. Slender Toothwort can be differentiated from Broad-leaved Toothwort by looking at the stem (cauline) leaves. The cauline leaves of Slender Toothwort are much narrower than the basal leaves, compared with Broad-leaved Toothwort that has stem leaves the same width as the basal leaves. It is important when documenting Slender Toothwort that photos of both the cauline and basal leaves are apparent.
