"Cherrybark Oak (Pagoda Oak) is a massive, long-lived tree of bottomlands and mesic forests of the southeastern U.S. that reaches the northernmost limits of its range in the coastal plain of Maryland and vicinity." (R. Simmons, pers. comm.) Cherrybark Oak was formerly classified as a subspecies of Southern Red Oak.
The leaves of Cherrybark Oak have two to four, mostly triangular lobes, which are arranged at right angles to the leaf midrib. The bark somewhat resembles that of cherry.
