Leafy Brain is associated with Stereum species on conifer trees. A related species, Phaeotremella frondosa is found on hardwood trees. Before 2018, most references assigned Leafy Brain on conifers and hardwoods to the same species (Phaeotremella foliacea). Consequently, older records should be considered dubious until they are reviewed.
