Spends most of its life in stands of pine trees, where it breeds. During migration, however, it may be found in deciduous trees or orchards. In Maryland it nests most commonly in Loblolly Pine, which has been planted extensively on the Eastern Shore. It is much more abundant during breeding season than at other times, though it occurs in Maryland throughout the year.
