Status:

Uncommon and local nesting species in Garrett Co. Common spring and fall migrant. Can be abundant in winter on the coastal plain, especially on the immediate coast. Uncommon to rare in winter as one moves west in the state.

Where to find:

Check coastal areas with large amounts of Wax Myrtle like Assateague Island. During migration any local migrant patch has the possibility of holding a Myrtle Warbler.

Relationships:

Successfully winters by feeding on various fruits, especially Wax Myrtle and Northern Bayberry. Myrtle Warblers also feed on the fruit of Eastern Red Cedar, Poison Ivy, and other plants whose fruit persist through the winter.
