Status:

Golden Hypomyces is a fungal parasite that specializes on Boletus mushrooms. The species has three life stages, each of which develops on the host mushroom. "The first, is the white mold stage, the Verticillium mold that you see in the picture. It will eventually become a powdery, yellow, asexual stage and later, finally develop the reddish brown perithecia (sexual stage) that will completely disintegrate its host." (L. Biechele, pers. comm.).

Relationships:

Relies on Boletus mushrooms and closely related species.
