Status:

Found solitary or in groups on ground or on decayed wood in forests (mostly hardwoods).

Description:

Cap: White with reddish-brown scales; dry; smooth when young (erect pointed scales easily wipe off); convex to nearly flat, sometimes with umbo; flesh white. Gills: White, edges may be toothed; close. Stalk: White becoming mostly light brown in age; white partial veil leaves white ring with reddish-brown scales on margin, ring often collapses (J. Solem, pers. comm.).
