Status:

Orange Jewelweed is widespread and common throughout northern and eastern North America. It grows in wet, shady areas and commonly forms dense stands in floodplain forests and around the forested edges of marshes and bogs, also colonizing disturbed sites such as ditches and road cuts.

Description:

The blossom is spotted. It hangs, jewel-like. Stems are succulent and exude liquid when broken. When seedpods are ripe, they explode at a touch, releasing seeds.

Relationships:

Nectar source for hummingbirds, bees and butterflies.

Host to Jewelweed Rust.
