Non-native. Introduced to the eastern U.S. from Japan and nearby areas. According to mantid expert Kris Anderson, this species has been recorded in all Maryland counties except Garrett and Allegany.
Similar to Chinese Mantis, but note orange spot between raptorial arms. Compare oothecae shape as well. Unidentified Tenodera should be posted as Chinese/Narrow-winged Mantis.
