Description:

Cap: Purplish-red when moist to pinkish-tan when dry; bluish/brown-purple marginal band easiest to see when cap is dry; smooth; convex to nearly flat in age, often with center depression; flesh yellowish. Gills: Pinkish-yellow with purple tinge to mostly yellow; edges reddish-purple. Stalk: Reddish-purple usually with yellow at apex, white mycelium at base; hollow (J. Solem, pers. comm.).

Where to find:

Habitat: Solitary or small groups on well-decayed oak logs.
