Fruiting body: Immature: White to pale brown, egg-shaped to almost round. Fertile surface: Oval to conic, deeply pitted, covered with dark green-black, foul-smelling spore mass, white-rimmed opening at apex. Stalk: White to light pink, hollow, spongy; white net-like veil flares from apex; pinkish-brown volva (J. Solem, pers. comm.).
Solitary or groups on ground; in hardwoods or mixed woods (J. Solem, pers. comm.).
