Compare typical Wine-cap Stropharia. This form may end up treated as a distinct species. It has a different odor, narrower spores, and a different reaction to KOH (J. Solem, pers. comm.). See notes at Michael Kuo's web site MushroomExpert.com. Typically found on mulch.
All parts white at all stages instead of wine-red to purple. The unpleasant odor, reaction to KOH as orange instead of olive green, narrower spores, and color distinguish it from the usual Wine-cap Stropharia. (J. Solem, pers. comm.)
