Description:

Cells solitary, roughly ellipsoid with slightly truncate apices; plastid one per semicell, stellate, lobed.

Where to find:

A minor component of many freshwater algal communities. Closterium navicula may be found in the plankton but is more frequently encountered among the periphyton.
