Stereum lobatum is part of the Stereum ostrea complex. Recent studies have suggested that Stereum ostrea may not occur in North America (e.g., Delong-Duhon & Bagley, 2020, unpublished)
Stereum lobatum is covered in dense, matted hairs that wear off in bands. The context under the hairs is chestnut (brown) in color. The undersurface stains yellow when bruised (MycoGuide). A hand lens may be necessary to distinguish this species from similar species of Stereum.
There are 91 records in the project database.
