Kingdom Plantae   >   Division Bryophyta   >   Class Marchantiopsida   >   Order Marchantiales   >   Family Marchantiaceae   >   Genus Marchantia

Description:

Narrow Mushroom-Headed Liverwort is a 'marchantioid' liverwort with a thick thallus and complex gametophore. Only the female archegonia are found on raised gametophores. The thallus often has a purple margin. Unlike Reboulia, this margin is flatter and does not curl back on itself. The pores on the thallus are raised and conspicuous.

Where to find:

Found over calcareous stone. Although there are few records for Maryland, this species would be expected in the mountains and piedmont.

There are 2 records in the project database.
