Status:

A newly described species (Nesom 2021, Phytoneuron) separated from Tiarella cordifolia. The status and distribution of this species in Maryland is under investigation. If photographing specimens of Tiarella, please look for and photograph stolons.

Description:

Unlike Tiarella cordifolia, this species produces stolons - leafy horizontal stems. It also usually lacks bracts along the flowering stalks.

Where to find:

The distribution of this species remains ambiguous. Nesom (2021) reported it from western Maryland and there are confirmed populations in Garrett County.
