A robber fly of open, sandy habitats near water, Efferia albibarbis is most likely to be found near the shore, or large rivers. The species has a very wide range across much of North America (Baker & Fischer, 1975). The genus Efferia s.l. is quite speciose, and some dipterists split it up into a number of smaller genera. Following that classification, this species would be placed in Albibarbefferia.
Note white moustache (mystax). Female ovipositor shape helps eliminate other Efferia.
