Status:

The fuzzy members of the genus Mallophora as a group are bumblebee or carpenter bee mimics, but quite unrelated to the mimics of the genus Laphria. This species appears to be near the northern limit of its distribution in Maryland. It ranges throughout the southeast and into the southwest.
