Machimus virginicus>/i> is quite similar to M. notatus, but evidently prefers habitats with a paler substrate than that species. The habitat preferences are evidently rather broad, again similar to M. notatus. It also appears the species is strongly attracted to pale or white objects within the general habitat (Baker & Fischer, 1975).
