This native annual is widespread and common in disturbed habitats. "Florida to Texas and Mexico, north to New England, New York, etc." (Reed, 1964).
Note the tiny white flowers and deep reddish leaf centers on this low, creeping plant. Other key features include hairy stems, sparsely haired leaves and milky liquid that exudes from a broken stem.
