Chokecherry is strictly a montane species and any populations east of the Catoctin Mountains should be considered introduced. The Kent County population is interesting because it is located on ancient shell middens which hold many interesting plant species that have montane affinities.
Host plant for various moth species including Inornate Olethreutes Moth, Serviceberry Leafroller Moth, Olethreutes glaciana (Gilligan, Wright, & Gibson, 2008), Suzuki's Promalactis Moth (Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington), American Dagger Moth and Banded Tussock Moth (Database of World's Lapidopteran Host Plant).
Host plant for various butterfly species including Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and Coral Hairstreak.
