Status:

In Maryland Rusty Woodsia is found only in Allegany and Washington Counties. Less than twenty populations are known and these few popualtions are restricted to shale barrens and outcrops of calcareous shales. Fire suppression and displacement by invasive species threaten Maryland's remaining Rusty Woodsia populations (MD DNR, 2017).
