Status:

Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas) nests in the tropics, but occurs uncommonly as a transient in Maryland, primarily in shallow bays or estuaries in coastal Worcester Co. Most sightings appear to be of juveniles in areas with seagrass beds. This federally threatened turtle is ranked as S1 (highly state rare) in Maryland, and is considered state-threatened.
