Clouded Sulphur (Colias philodice) is a common, very wide-ranging yellow butterfly, found across much of North America. In Maryland, this multiple-brooded species species may be on the wing from early April into November. It prefers open habitats, like fields or pastures, or roadsides, where they may frequently be found nectaring (Butterflies of Maryland: A Biological Summary and Checklist by Lynn Davidson & Richard Smith; Brock & Kaufman 2003; Allen 1997).
Clouded Sulphur uses various clovers (Trifolium) as larval food sources.
