Status:

On ground in oak or pine forests or grassy areas of nutrient poor soil. Fruiting body covered with small clusters of spines, each tapering to a point. Spores: White when young, olive-brown in maturity (J. Solem, pers. comm.).

Description:

The exoperidium flakes off when mature (L. Biechele, pers. comm.).
