Status:

Aphrodite Fritillary (Speyeria aphrodite) is another species of Speyeria, generally similar in appearance to Great Spangled Fritillary (S. cybele), but with a less extensive buffy submarginal band on the underside of the hind wing, and smaller in size. In Maryland, most commonly found in Garrett County.

Description:

Aphrodite Fritillary is easily confused with Atlantis Fritillary. One of the easiest ways to tell the two species apart is by eye color. Aphrodite Fritillary has yellow-green eyes and Atlantis Fritillary has blue-gray eyes. Both Aphrodite and Atlantis Fritillary are smaller than the much larger Great Spangled Fritillary.

Relationships:

Host plants are species in the family Violaceae including Arrow-leaved Violet and Primrose-leaved Violet.
