Royal River Cruiser (Macromia taeniolata) is the largest species of the genus in North America. This stately dragonfly is generally found along rivers and larger creeks, but may also sometimes breed in shallow lakes or reservoirs. The areas favored generally have relatively slow current (Paulson, 2011). Males patrol habitat along the banks most of the day (Dunkle, 2000). This species is recorded primarily from the piedmont and coastal plain regions of Maryland, with one additional county of the ridge-and-valley. It is ranked as S3 (watch list) in Maryland.
There are 30 records in the project database.
