Kingdom Animalia   >   Phylum Arthropoda   >   Class Insecta   >   Order Odonata   >   Family Libellulidae   >   Genus Celithemis

Status:

Halloween Pennant (Celithemis eponina) is the largest of our Celithemis species, with conspicuously-colored, translucent orange and dark brown wings. This dragonfly breeds at ponds and lakes with emergent vegetation, which they often perch on. In Maryland, this is a widespread species pennant, with records from all counties. It is generally not found in overwhelming numbers, and could be considered uncommon (Richard Orr's The Dragonflies and Damselflies of Maryland and the District of Columbia).

There are 796 records in the project database.
