Generally the most southerly species of its genus in North America, Dot-tailed Whiteface (Leucorrhinia intacta) is sparsely distributed in Maryland, mostly at higher elevations. There are recent records from Garrett, Allegany, and Frederick Cos., plus a historic record from Baltimore Co. (Richard Orr's The Dragonflies and Damselflies of Maryland and the District of Columbia). This skimmer is found at a variety of ponds or lakes, usually with some sort of emergent vegetation. Less tied to bog ponds than other members of Leucorrhinia (Paulson, 2011). It is considered S3 (a watch list species).
