Status:

This beautiful tropical butterfly has been recorded accidentally as a presumed natural vagrant in Maryland only once, in Baltimore County. In North America, Zebra Heliconian is restricted to Florida and south Texas, and does not survive freezing temperatures.

Relationships:

The larval host plant is Purple Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata).
