Carolina Milkvine Matelea carolinensis (Jacquin) WoodsonEndangered (MD)  -  S2 (State rare)Synonyms: Anglepod,  Carolina Anglepod,  Vincetoxicum carolinense,  Vincetoxicum hirsutum.

Status:

Restricted to the Southeast, Carolina Milkweed reaches its northern limit in Maryland and Delaware. Carolina Milkvine is a vining plant that grows on well lit forested edges and open stream banks. In Maryland, this species is restricted to the coastal plain. It is a rare plant in Maryland, with around 20 populations. The Maryland Natural Heritage Programs has ranked Carolina Milkvine as a S2 endangered species.

Description:

Like all species in the milkweed family, Carolina Milkweed has opposite leaves.
