Southern Twayblade Listera australis LindleyS3 (Watch list)  Synonyms: Neottia biflora,  Ophrys australis.

Status:

An uncommon native orchid confined to Maryland's coastal plain.

Description:

Diminutive and can be easily overlooked due to the brown coloration of the flowering plant that blends in with the leaf detritus where this plant is most often found.

Where to find:

Found in Swamp forests, pine flatwoods in wet or seasonally saturated sandy or organic soils (MD DNR). Not as habitat specific as once thought.
