Southern Dorchester County Field Trip

***MBP FIELD TRIPS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO ANYONE THAT WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE***

On Saturday, March 16 Jim Brighton will lead a field trip through southern Dorchester County. We will start the day at Oakley Street/Great Marsh in Cambridge, and then drive south to Blackwater NWR. From Blackwater, we will head to the Tubman Trail and do a hike through a Loblolly Pine forest. From the Tubman Trail, we will continue south to Hooper’s Island where we will spend time at various vantage points scanning the bay for birds. Depending on time, we will leisurely make our way back to Cambridge and end the day at RAR Brewery with food and libations.

We will meet at the Cambridge Visitor Center at the base of the Choptank Bridge at 9 am (38.571295, -76.064609). As always, we will need to carpool. If this is an issue, please wait for another trip. If April is the cruelest month, March is a close second. It can be bitterly cold, and inevitably the wind will be blowing. Please dress accordingly. We will try to keep our feet as dry as possible, but if you have waterproof walking shoes/boots it might be good to wear them. We will be out in the boonies for most of the day. Please bring your lunch, snacks, and drinks. There will be bathroom access at the visitor center at Blackwater, but after that accommodations will be sparse.

The trip might be cancelled due to rain or other inclement weather. It will not be rescheduled. This decision will be made a couple of days before the trip. Trip participants will be alerted by email if the trip is cancelled.

As with most winter MBP field trips this excursion will be heavy on birding, but we will be looking at the other biodiversity we encounter.
